We are compiling a history of the Pee Dee Regional Center of the SCDDSN and would love to have an account of your most memorable, most surprising, and most meaningful experiences while associated with Pee Dee Center. For those of you who were there in the early days we would like to have some assistance regarding the timeline and early admissions process. Any pictures or other memorabilia will be greatly appreciated.
Those who were there in the early stages probably recall a very special atmosphere where much sharing and caring was apparent. The staff for the most part seemed very satisfied being at Pee Dee Center and hopefully the residents enjoyed a good quality of life with dedicated, specialized staff. We are asking for information from both staff and student interns as well as others with interest in the Center.
The services have greatly evolved since the time of Whitten and then the Regional Centers. We think that the story needs to be shared lest our communities forget how we got to this point. One current service that significantly assists with providing an alternative path for families, in our opinion, is Early Intervention. We hope one part of the completion of this project will allow us to share with our EIs the extent of needs that they are meeting in their work.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or to share information that you have or let us know of any other written resources that we may not be aware of.
Thank you for taking time to consider and hopefully respond to this request.
